Unit 3: Solar System Down to Earth
Task 1: Title Page and Checklist (2/20/24)
Make a Title Page in your notebook for our next unit called Solar System Down to Earth. Your title page must include the words "Solar System Down to Earth" and it should include colored images of the Sun, and all 8 planets of our solar system as well. You can use my title page as an example to build from.
Task 2: Solar System Vocabulary (Ongoing Study)
Use the link below to access the vocabulary in Quizlet. You need to write down all of the vocabulary and definitions in your notebook. You will have 24 different terms.
Task 3: Planets in the Solar System Web Notes (2/20/24)
Grab a copy of the notes from Mr. Tanner or print out your own copy by clicking on the image of my notes. You will need to tape all four pages of the notes separately into your notebook. Click the link for the instructions to the right to learn how to access and set up the simulation you will need to complete your notes. It is very important to follow the instructions.
Task 4: What objects are in the Solar System. (2/21/24)
Grab the Objects in the Solar System Worksheet from the back of the room and glue it into the next blank page of your notebook. Watch the video below to help you complete the page.
Task 5: Size and Scale of the Solar System EdPuzzle. (2/21/24)
Click the link for your class period below to watch the EdPuzzle video from Mark Rober. Watch the video and answer all of the questions as they pop up. If you are not happy with your score you can redo the video assignment as many times as you would like.
Task 6: If the Moon were a Pixel (2/22/24)
Click the link below for your class period to open the assignment in Google Classroom. The instructions for how to use the website needed are written in red text on the Google Doc. Read the instructions carefully or this assignment will take you a very, very long time. Once you have answered all of the questions turn the assignment into Google Classroom.
Task 7: Astronomical Research Project (2/23/24)
Click the link below for your class period to open the assignment in Google Classroom. You will need to choose an object, not including the sun, any of the planets, or pluto to research. Some options to research are included in the Google Doc Research guide. After you have completed the research you will need to build a Google Slides presentation containing all of the information about your object.
Task 8: Gravity and Planetary Motion Notes (2/26/24)
Grab a copy of the notes packet from Mr. Tanner or print out your own copy by clicking on the image of my notes below. Tape both pages separately into the next two page spread of your science notebook. Once the notes are taped into your notebook you will need to watch the YouTube Video to learn the material and fill out the blanks in your notes. After completing your notes, watch all three additional videos linked below to help clarify Einstein's theory of General Relativity.
Task 9: Seasons Notes (2/28/24)
Grab a copy of the notes from Mr. Tanner or print out your own copy by clicking on the image of my notes below. Tape the note sheet into the left-hand page of your notebook and label the right-hand page "Modelling the Seasons". Once the notes are taped into your notebook you will need to watch the YouTube Video to learn the material and fill out the blanks in your notes.
Task 10: Planetary Motion, Gravity, and Seasons Vocabulary (Ongoing)
You will need to add all twenty terms from the Planetary Motion, Gravity, and Seasons Vocabulary set from Quizlet into your notebook. Write the definition for a word before you add the next term so you always have enough space for each definition. You can add your vocabulary to the page immediately following the Models of each season.
Task 11: Phases of the Moon Gizmos. (2/29/24)
Grab a copy of the Phases of the Moon Gizmos packet from Mr. Tanner or print out your own copy by clicking on the picture of my notebook below. Tape both pages of the packet separately into your notebook as is shown in the image. After taping in the pages, launch the "Phases of the Moon Gizmo" after you log in to explore learning using your teacher's username. Follow the instructions on your packet and use the Gizmo simulation to complete the packet.

Task 13: Tides Gizmos (3/4/24)
Click the button below for your class period to open the assignment in Google Classroom. You will use the Tides Gizmos to answer all of the questions in the PDF file attached. To log in to Gizmos click on the Student Tab. The student log in for Gizmos is linked below.
Task 14: Tides Notes
Grab a copy of the Tides note page from Mr. Tanner or print out your own copy by clicking on the picture of my notebook below. Tape the page into your notebook as shown in the image. After adding the page, watch the YouTube video linked below to fill out your notes.
Task 15: Modeling Eclipses (3/5/24)
Watch the YouTube video linked below to learn about Solar and Lunar Eclipses. You will then add the models drawn in my notebook below to the next blank page of your notebook. Make sure your model includes the Sun, Earth, Moon, Umbra, and Penumbra. (Zoom in to see the image more clearly.)
Task 16: Modeling The Sun Earth and Moon. (3/5/24 - 3/6/24)
Watch the YouTube video linked below to learn how to complete the assignment. Once you have finished the video click the button for your class period to open the assignment in Google Classroom. Once you have completed the assignment make sure you turn it in.
