Unit 5: Mexico and Central America

Task 1:  Title Page and Checklist (11/9/23)

Create a title page and tape the checklist into the next blank page of your notebook to mark the start of Unit 3:  Canada. 

Task 2a: Political Map of Mexico and Central America (11/9/23)

Step 1: Grab a copy of the map from the front of the room or print one out from the document below. Label each country and capital city for Mexico and Central America.  You need to color each country such that no two countries sharing a border are the same color.  

The labels on the map must be easy to see and written well enough that I can read them. 

Task 2b: Physical Map of Mexico and Central America (11/9/23)

Step 1: Grab a copy of the map from the front of the room or print one out from the document below. Label each physical feature that is listed on the instructions included on the map.  You need to color the map to match the Atlas page I included in the resources.  

The labels on the map must be easy to see and written well enough that I can read them. 

Task 3: Study Materials for Central America and Mexico (Review throughout the Unit)

Click the link below to access the review games for your class period.  They include Seterra Review Games, Gimkits, and Blookets.  

Task 4: Creation Stories of the Aztec and Maya (11/13/23)

Grab a copy of the notes from Mr. Tanner or click the Image of my notebook to create make your copy of the notes.  You can print out the notes and tape them into the next blank page of your notebook.  After taping in the notes watch all three creation myth videos to help you better understand the culture of the Aztec, Maya, and Inca. 

Task 5: Preserving Maya Heritage (11/13/23)

Click the image of the google classroom logo to get to google classroom.  Find the assignment under Unit 5: Mexico and Central America.

 The attached Google Doc contains a link that will allow you to answer the questions.  Once you have answered all the questions make sure you turn your assignment in.  

Task 6: Reading on the Maya and Aztec (11/14/23)

Grab a copy of the note catcher from Mr. Tanner or print one off from the Google Doc below.  Remove the staple and tape each page separately into the notebook.   Read page 102 and 103 from your textbook, or use a picture of the reading below to complete your notes.  After you have finished the reading and notes, click the link below to access the "check for understanding" quiz you need to complete.  You have as many tries as you need to get 100% on the quiz.  

Task 7: Cracking the Maya Code Video (11/15/23)

Grab a copy of the video guide from Mr. Tanner or print out your own copy using the document below.  Watch the video below to help you fill out the video guide.  This video details the efforts that led to understanding the Maya written language.

Task 8: Mesoamerica DBQ

Click the image of the google classroom logo to get to google classroom.  Find the assignment under Unit 5: Mexico and Central America.

 You will need to read all the instructions and analyze all the documents carefully to successfully complete this assignment.  Once you have answered all the questions turn in the assignment.  

Task 9: Conquistador Reading and Check for Understanding 

Either use the picture or video linked below to access the reading required on the Conquistadors.  After you have completed the reading, use what you have learned to take the google form linked below the reading and videos.

Task 10: Engineering an Empire "Maya the Death Empire" (11/27/23)

Grab a copy of the note catcher for the video from Mr. Tanner, or you can print off your own copy from the document below.  Remove the staple and tape in both pages of the document separately into your notebook.  Watch the video below to help you fill out the note catcher.

Watch the two videos linked at the top of the Google Doc.  Use the information from the videos to fill out the organizer.  

Task 12: Maya Ruins Commercial

You will need to make a one minute long commercial that convinces people to visit a Maya historical site of your choice.  Click the button below for your class period to see all of the instructions.  You can watch the video below to see an example of a commercial I made.

Watch the video below to learn about GDP and Per Capita GDP.  In your notebook you should write the definitions for GDP, Per Capita GDP, and answer the question that is shown in the picture of my notebook below.
